The Cabinet Maker Who Went Outside

Most deck builders start as general contractors or rough framers. My path was different.

I started my career in the Specials Department of a high-end kitchen cabinet manufacturer. My job was to handle the custom hardwood pieces that machines couldn't touch—complex joinery, exotic hardwoods, and details that had to be perfect within a fraction of a millimeter.

Later, I spent five years framing houses. I loved the scale of the work and being outdoors, but I missed the precision of the cabinet shop. I realized the standard "rough carpentry" used on most decks wasn't enough for me.

I founded Lakeside Decks to bridge that gap. I wanted to bring the "white glove" precision of the cabinet shop to the rugged environment of the outdoors.

Owner-Operated by Design

I am the sole proprietor of Lakeside Decks, and I work alone by choice.

In an industry full of revolving crews and disconnected project managers, I offer a rare alternative: Total Accountability.

  • I Design It: We sit down together to plan every board.

  • I Build It: From digging the footings to the final screw, I am the one on-site.

  • I Guarantee It: You never have to chase down a "boss" to get an answer. I am right there.

Precision Joinery & Advanced Tech

My background in the "Specials Department" of a cabinetry shop taught me that standard framing isn't enough for a luxury finish. I apply those fine-woodworking techniques to modern materials.

The Lakeside Difference:

  • The "Pocket-Screw" Standard (PVC & Composite): Most builders just push mitered corners together ("butt joints") and hope for the best. When winter hits, those joints open up. I don't rely on hope. whether I am installing Trex or AZEK, I use specialized adhesives and pocket-screw every miter joint from the underside. This mechanically locks the corners together so they stay tight for decades, regardless of the temperature.

  • PVC Heat Bending: This is where true custom work shines. With PVC, I don't just cut angles; I can heat-bend the boards. This allows for seamless curved borders and custom-integrated drain grills that are impossible to achieve with traditional wood or standard composite.

  • Architectural Night Lighting: I don't use cheap solar caps that dim after an hour. I install premium In-Lite low-voltage systems. These are architectural-grade fixtures integrated directly into the stairs and railings, designed to make your deck safer and more beautiful long after the sun goes down.

No Middlemen. No Miscommunication.

In the construction world, the biggest source of stress isn't the sawdust; it's the lack of communication. You tell the salesman what you want, but he never tells the crew.

The Solo Advantage: Because I work alone (or with a small, dedicated team under my direct supervision), nothing gets lost in translation.

  • You Consult With Me: I don't send a "closer" to upsell you. We walk the yard together and discuss what’s actually possible.

  • You Build With Me: I am on-site every day. If you have a question mid-project, you don't have to call an office—you just walk out the back door and ask me.

  • We Finish as Friends: I pride myself on my relationships. I have never had a "bad" client experience because I treat people with respect and deliver exactly what I promised.

Roots by the Water

The name "Lakeside Decks" is a nod to my history. Growing up right on the water, my very first deck project happened on the sandy shores of Lake Erie.

By that time, I had already spent years framing houses, so I was no stranger to hard work. But that lakeside build was the turning point—it was where I realized I could combine the structural grit of my framing background with the refined precision I loved from the cabinet shop.

Today, I bring that same standard to homeowners across Rochester. My approach is simple: I operate with total transparency and obsessive attention to detail. I don't just want to be a contractor you hire; I want to be a partner in creating a space you’ll love for decades.
